Step 1 - Instructions for use Intravenous Cannula (Bio-Flon)

Step 1: Prepare the site carefully before venipunture. Make sure that the package and contents are intact and the expiry date has not exceeded.

Step 2: Hold the I.V.Cannula (Bio-Flon) firmly with three point grip. This minimises the risk of touch contamination and enables a steady grip. Advance the cannula through the skin and puncture the vein. venipunture is indicated by the entry of blood the flashback chamber.

Step 3: Change grip and advance the catheter into the vein, withdraw the needle completely. Avoid blood spillage by pressing a finger on the vein above the catheter tip.

Step 4: Connect the infusion line or seal off the catheter with the luer lock plug. The plug is removed by holding it between the thumb and the middle finger while pushing the needle forward with the index finger. If not for immediate use the I.V. Cannula (Bio-Flon) should be flushed with saline solution.

Step 5: Secure the Catheter and protect the puncture site. This can be done with the suitable dressing. Good fixation is important to prevent mechanical irritation. The puncture site should be checked regularly for signs of phlebitis or other reactions.

Step 6: The injection valve is a convenient way of administering drugs and / or flushing the catheter. when not in use the injection valve should remain covered by the protection cap.
